syllable - a rhythmic unit of a
word, generally counted by the number of vowel sounds. For example,
the word, 'transportation' has 4 syllables: trans.por.ta.tion,
and ta is the syllable with the most
stress.

stress - emphasis placed on a
syllable or word by making it 1) higher in pitch, 2) longer, and 3) louder.

vowel
- A, E, I, O, or U sounds. They are sometimes spelled with Y or even
W.
